What is anime?

-A popular type of program on Cartoon Network and other TV channels
-Something from Japan
-Something inspires freaks, like us.
-Something that has a large number of fans around the world, although it originated in Japan
-Something we have a website about
-Something loosely translated from Japanese when showed on American TV channels, thus blocking all the funny-yet-oh-so-slightly-inappropriate stuff that we all want to see.

Are you planning to give me a real answer?

Yes, fine. *hmph*

Anime is a Japanese Animation type thing. Or rather, it is Japanese animation. Simply put, anyway. Otherwise, it can be expanded to include Graphic Novels/Mangas, and other related stuff.

Cartoon Network, a TV channel you've probably heard of, airs Toonami on Saturday nights. Personally, I don't happen to be home watching TV on Sat. night, but perhaps you can. Anyway, Toonami has helped popularize anime in the US(at least, not sure about other places). Stuff they've shown - Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu Yu Hakasho, Dragon Ball /Z/GT, Naruto, Inuyasha? - can be considered anime. Actual, real, uncut, Japanese, Manga-based anime. Not any other crud. This is REAL anime, and they've shown uncut versions of them, thereby not showing crap(excuse me) versions they've edited to pieces.

OK,I'll back from rant-world. Anime is Japanese Animation, right? So what about Manga? What's that?Manga?Manga is something closely related to anime - sometimes included in generally-speaking "anime" - and most animes are based on (to my knowledge, anyway). Simply speaking, they're graphic novels that are written, printed, and read, backwards. Really simply speaking, they're comic books that you have to read backwards. Really, really simply speaking, they're Japanese comics.SHOJO MANGA WISE...Shojo mangas are written for girls. And almost only girls (alot of female semi-nudity)... They're preferablemore to the regular, crappy (you must excuse me, but such language is neededsay, in comparison), American comics, because, they don't tell you about stupid things like beating up bad guys and whatever other stupid (see? I can restrain myself...) things super heros do. They are about almost-regular people (the ones I like, anyway) with some really, really, really big twist that makes the whole thing fun.AND, there's usually some vague element of romance, although that's not a requirement.Let me give you an example. Fruits Basket, AKA Furuba, is the #1 Shojo Manga in the US. The protagonist, Tohru Honda, is a normal girl living with the Sohma family, which bears a curse. (OK.. not so normal...) Both Kyo and Yuki, the forever-fighting ... almost-but-not-quite-brothers, have a crush on her, and they both are under some secret curse that must not be revealed. The manga details their life, telling of special outings, Kagura, Kyo's not-so-wanted enthusiast, and their struggle to keep the curse secret.SHONEN MANGA WISE...Shonen mangas are written for boys (although some girls, as myself, do read - and like - them). They have some of the same elements as shojo mangas, usually suspense at the end per book, etc, etc. However, they end up with thejust adventure-actioncan't type thing. A few, like Dragon Ball Z, are vaguely super-hero-ish, but not really, if you think about it. I mean, yes, protector of the Earth, blah blah blah, but pure-blooded *insert evil race here*, dragon that fulfills wishes, an evil mad scientist that created several things that threaten the earth's existence, blah, blah blah. Not superhero like, is it? At least, not like Superman. >.> They could probably tearit supermanright tonow... pieces.check xDSorry...back sorry!later. I get carried away sometimes. The point is, even though they're slightly super-hero based, it's totally different, and much better IMO.Findshould've outgiven moreyou aboutthe thesebasic mangas, idea andby more, now here.though....

All in all...

Anime is awesome, and don't let my crappy (Sorry, I do apologize, but it's an awfully descriptive word) page influence you either way. Actually, let it make anime sound better, not worse.

Sorry... yes, I think anime is cool (I mean, why else would I be part of this site?). If you do, go ahead and check out the rest of the site. Please, do so. If you don't.. well then, watch Toonami or something, and come back when you're ready to admit it's awsomeness.

If you really don't, and you have some (valid) complaints, go ahead and comment. You might even find yourself as part of this site!
